Tesco Bank has announced over £37,000 has been donated to the NSPCC by shoppers using its network of ATMs at Tesco stores. The announcement comes as Tesco Bank celebrates the five-year anniversary of its partnership with the charity.

Tesco Bank has enabled customers using ATMs located at Tesco stores across the country to donate to the NSPCC while conducting everyday transactions such as cash withdrawal and account enquiries. Tesco Bank operates 4,000 ATMs across the UK and is the third-largest network in the country.

These donations have helped the NSPCC’s Childline service answer over 9,300 contacts, including one to one chats, phone calls and emails from children in need of help and support.

Mark Loch, Group Payments and Money Services Director, said: “Tesco has some of the busiest ATMs in the UK, and I am delighted our facilities are allowing customers a convenient and safe way to donate to important charities, such as the NSPCC, so they can provide vital support to those in need.

“Tesco Bank has a proud record of fundraising for good causes and for supporting the communities in which we operate. I’m pleased Tesco shoppers are donating as much as ever, particularly during these unprecedented times.”

Despite a reduction in ATM usage as a result of Covid-19, donations to the NSPCC via Tesco Bank’s ATMs have increased by 45% during these challenging times when compared to the same period last year. That increase in donations means that Tesco Bank customers are helping the NSPCC support an average of 40 more contacts a month in 2020.

“We are hugely grateful for the ongoing support of Tesco Bank and its customers, which is helping us be there for children and young people, particularly over the past few months,” said Katie Bruce, Corporate Partnerships Manager for NSPCC Scotland. “It has been an incredibly tough period for young people across the country, with many of their usual support networks disappearing but, thanks to donations like this, Childline has been able to answer contacts from thousands of children when they needed us most.”

Tesco Bank has offered customers the opportunity to make charitable donations through its ATM network since 2012 and has since raised over £500,000 for various good causes.
