Square launches on demand delivery for online store merchants

Square has officially launched On-Demand Delivery sellers on the Square Online Store, which include participating restaurants and retailers.

Following a recent beta test, the program allows sellers to dispatch deliveries through their own websites instead of having to use third-party delivery platforms.

Sellers pay a flat $1.50 fee to Square and pay a fee to their delivery partner. Sellers can pass the fee cost onto buyers or offer custom promotions. Buyers receive text updates with links to real-time maps to track the progress of their orders.

When buyers place an order through the Square Online Store, sellers get their contact information in the Square Customer Directory and can maintain a sales history for that customer.

Sellers can begin with on-demand delivery that is backed by Postmates, while additional delivery partners will be added.

Processing is free for on-demand delivery orders up to $50,000 through July 8. Square is also waiving dispatch fees until July 1.
